Whew, I am tired. Another day of running around with the sisters. We sweated it out at the Russian Turkish Baths today, so we're feeling very detoxed and mellow. I'm sure we'll fix that soon with some sort of junk food. I don't have any now, but there's always the gas station 'round the corner! Gotta love New York City- there's always somewhere you can get your fix! Even if your fix happens to be Doritos. I didn't say much about the Tyra taping yesterday. It was very Tyra- crazy, fun, weird, fabulous. First, let's talk about Tyra- she's looking good! She was wearing a sleeveless navy shirt dress cinched at the waist (she appears to have lost some weight- she appears thick only in her arms and upper legs), with some nice white jewelry and red patent leather peep-toe heels. She has teeny, tiny little ankles- I can't believe she can even stand on them. The topic of the show was "Beauty Tips from Around the World". They had a panel of girls from a number of different countries, and they showcased all these crazy beauty practices from each country. Like snake massage from Israel- the snake woman kept throwing the snakes at Tyra, and Tyra was not amused. She kept screaming and running away. Or fish pedicures from Turkey- unfortunately, the fish pedicure guy got held up in customs with his special pedicure fish, so they bought American fish instead, and like typical Americans, they wouldn't do the dirty work. It's funny, it was pretty clear from being in studio that most of the beauty treatments didn't really work a lick. They brought in a woman to do semi-permanent tattoo eyeliner on this girl, and after they did one eye, they tried to get a shot on her eyes as before and after, but the effect was too subtle. So they did up one eye with real eyeliner for the shot. And that was the end of that, which makes me wonder- does the girl get her other eye done? Or is she stuck with semi-permanent eyeliner on one eye for the next few years? The funny thing about a TV taping is that while you think it might be fun... in some ways, it isn't. A studio audience is just another prop. Clap here, yell there, stand up, cheer cheer cheer. It's kind of depressing, it doesn't make you feel special at all- when the whole thing is over, you just feel so USED. Tyra didn't interact a lot with the studio audience, other than the on camera stuff- she did ask us a question about the snake lady at one point (and we informed her that, yes, the snake lady did appear to be shoving the snakes into her clothes on purpose- weeeeeird!), but other than that, she seemed focused on working on each segment, which I suppose makes sense. The show is about the show for the television audience, not the studio audience. It's also possible Tyra was scared of us- there were 3 big bodyguards who took turns standing between the audience and Tyra at all times when the cameras were off. I met a former President, and he didn't even have that much visible security! Perhaps Tyra has more rabid fans? Models can be pretty scary. Past :: Present :: Future |
