Happy Memorial Day! What an odd thing to say. Like "Happy Funeral" or something. We need some better phrase for acknowledging this holiday.

My friend Jess from college drove down from MA with her fiance for the weekend. I haven't seen her in forever- it's been so long, that I hadn't met her fiance and she hadn't met mine! We had a great time together, although all the walking nearly killed them. I forget that tourists aren't used to walking as much as we do.

The only downside of the weekend was that Jess' car got broken into. We walked them to the car this afternoon to send them off, and the passenger window was busted. GPS unit stolen out of the glove compartment. Booooooo. Way to kill the buzz of an otherwise fun trip. Although they did say on several occasions that they were looking for "real New York" experiences. Guess they got what they wished for.

While we waited for the police, we ran into a lot of stock NY characters. First, the old Greek guy nearby came over from his porch and talked at us in broken English. Several people walking by offered their condolences and shared similar stories of things happening in their neighborhood. My favorite guy told a story of how he watches out for the cars on his block, and how late one night he saw some punk kid messing with cars downstairs, and that it was too bad that a lady upstairs yelled at the kid to go away because he was headed down there with a baseball bat. I just can't wait for somebody to mess with me, he said jealously. You and me both, sir. That's real New York right there. You get so tough that you are just WAITING for somebody to mess with you so you can pull out your full bag of tricks. I feel the same way. STEP UP, CRIMINALS, MissPinkKate is ready for you.

Speaking of criminals, it's our three year dating anniversary! Happy Anniversary M! I love you.
