I got a seasonal flu shot today. I don't know the last time I got a flu shot. Is it possible I've never gotten a flu shot? I rarely ever get sick, and when I was working from home every day, I never got sick. I think I tried to get a flu shot two, three years ago, and the pharmacist I went to see shooed me away, telling me I didn't need one (since I'm not sick, don't have children and don't work with children). And, in case you've forgotten, I'm pretty cheap. $20, $25 for a shot for something I probably won't get anyway? No thank you! But work offers them for free and strongly encourages getting one, and who am I to turn down something free? Went over lunch to get it done. I was pleased to find that they were offering the actual shot and not the nose mist. Of the two choices, I would definitely pick the shot. I never enjoy nose medicine, I find the sensation very unpleasant. Getting a shot is nothing. The needle doesn't hurt at all. Giving blood, now that hurts (although the part I hate most of that is the iron test, not the actual blood giving). Compared to that big honkin' needle, a shot needle is nothing. I didn't even feel the lady give me the shot today- well, I felt the medicine go in, but I didn't feel the needle, know what I mean? My lack of suffering didn't stop me from taking a little post-shot candy from the big pumpkin bucket on the door. The real excitement comes when they start handing out H1N1 shots. Will I get that shot? You bet your booty I will! Again, it's free, and I like free things. Plus, it makes me feel like a REBEL- I'm not scared, lay that new vaccine on me! It's a sad world we live in where trusting modern medicine makes you a rebel. Ah well, some of us brave adventurers have to take that first step. Past :: Present :: Future |
